New LCS Principal Hard at Work!
LCS Principal Paul Hubert Pierre, pictured here with THP President Patrick Moynihan, brings joy, dedication and enthusiasm to his new post.
The 2004-2005 school year has gotten off to a smashing success, with much credit due to our new principal, Hubert Paul Pierre. Hubert has brought an infectious spirit of enthusiasm for the school and for its mission, which is easy to see in his wide smile, cheerful disposition, and dedicated work ethic. Ever since coming to the school in September 2002 as a Philosophy teacher, Hubert has integrated himself into the community and has been received with open arms by both staff and students alike.
Living in a community is one of Hubert's favorite aspects of Louverture Cleary. He says that he "really appreciates the way we work together as a community. Everyone comes to help." Hubert feels that Haiti is not an isolated country, but truly a part of the world, so in the same way that a community cares for all of its members, we need to incorporate the entire world in solving Haiti's problems. "Everything in a community is everyone's concern," says Hubert, so "if we need to finish with violence and poverty in Haiti, it is everyone's business."
The vast and despairing poverty of Haiti became a great reality for Hubert after he assumed his position as principal at LCS. One of his duties is to visit the homes of students before they come to the school to gain an idea of their living and family situation. Through the visits, Hubert "discovered the poverty of the country" and realized "this is a serious problem that we need to solve." A truly wonderful gift for Hubert is to see at the school the students who live in dire conditions because "it is a miracle for them. We are able to save the lives of the students and their mothers and their fathers" simply because the school is offering an alternative living situation.
One of Hubert's favorite things about LCS is that "we can quickly see the results of our work. Effectively, we are helping students to be better citizens. By creating these great citizens we are helping to rebuild Haiti." Hubert is very enthusiastic about the positive impact LCS can have on students, on their families, and on their greater community. He would love to see more Louverture Cleary schools in the country, and he genuinely feels that "even a little effort can make a big difference" in the lives of others by helping students to have open minds and a greater world vision.
The greatest challenge for Hubert at the school is to "build up confidence in the school". He says that he needs "lots of energy for this work, it's a big challenge, but there is lots of hope and this school is all about good things." This school is exceptionally lucky to have Hubert here to share his enthusiasm and hope for the students and for Haiti. Many more good things are sure to come in the following school year as a result of the dedication and joy Hubert demonstrates every day.
