Muy Caliente!

Thank you THP supporters Susan Prince and Alan Bosworth for spicing up the night Nov. 3 with a Latin themed dinner in support of THP. A big thanks goes out to those who volunteered their time and talent, such as Donna Staub and Rice Drewry for providing the live music and Barbara Fuggett for leading the group in some Latin line-dancing. About 50 people, including Christina Moynihan (THP President’s wife) showed up that Tuesday in support of the students of Louverture Cleary. Everything was donated, including the space and food, which Bosworth graciously supplied at his restaurant, Café Olé. Over $2,500 was raised thanks to all who chipped in.

Silent Supporters Barb and Terry Sandage have been supporting THP for the last eight years. Their names may not stick out, but their contributions should. Barb, who teaches religious education to grade school students at St. Bridget’s in Rockford, IL., has recently dedicated hours of her time creating crafts to be sold for the advancement of Louverture Cleary School. THP knows her from her quilted blankets, intricate jewelry and cornucopia of soaps, many of which were displayed for sale Oct. 17 during the craft fair fundraiser. Her husband Terry and sister Linda, like at many of Barb’s THP fundraisers, actively participated and put in countless hours themselves. Barb describes her hours of dedication to THP as a “labor of love.”

Raise Sum Clams

On Sept. 27, the THP Providence community came together to honor Charles and Joy Wharton.  Charlie, one of The Haitian Project’s founders, and his wife Joy, have given their time and spirit to the project for over 20 years.  The community and Board members again did a fantastic job bringing together New Englanders to crack a claw in support of THP.  Despite the difficult economic climate, the community rallied to make this the most profitable Clambake yet, raising over $17,000 for our students.  Thank you Al & Suzanne Hall, Doug & Wendy Gray, Matt Smith, EAPD, Linda Dunn, Pat Newell, and the THP staff for making this year’s Clambake the best yet!
