Thanks to the Many

In response to the Easter article “The Seed of Invention,” Charlie Wharton wrote, “Thank you for the flattering article [Mar. 2009] on me as a person committed to THP. It goes without saying that there were far too many people to name, who gave substantially of their time, treasure, and talent during the early days. THP would not have survived if we had not been a committed and cohesive team. The idea behind LCS as a mission was a collective decision made by the Board, with valuable input and advice from our in-country volunteers.”

Titans raise the Bar

Boylan High School [Rockford, IL] raised over $7,000 for THP through their Lenten Penny Campaign – that’s $3,000 more than last year! Along with the students, we thank the Boylan faculty and staff, especially the Theology Department, for annually inspiring the students of Boylan to give as they have received. We also want to recognize the efforts of our local Board members in inspiring generations of students and teachers to be involved in supporting THP’s mission in Haiti. The extra help this year comes in handy as we fight to the finish line for annual funds in tougher-than-usual economic times.

Debate at LCS

In September of 2005, FOKAL (La Fondation Connaissance et Liberté), introduced Haiti’s only national debate program. According to Wisguerby Bellegarde, proud manager of the LCS debate team, “The program encourages young people to think and discuss issues related to their society so to improve their leadership.” This year the FOKAL National Coordinator designated the LCS Young Professional Debaters as the Club of the Year. LCS already won a competition against one of the toughest schools in the area, Institution des Soeurs du Sacré Coeur, and stand a good chance of winning the FOKAL national tournament this year.
