Send Out The Laborers
It is great to have a spirited, mostly young mission group at the school again. This week we are hosting students and faculty from Loras College in Dudbuque, IA. The mission group brings the life and energy we need as we continue construction repairs. Heavy work is indeed made light by many hands.
We have several groups on the calendar for this semester. This comes after a bit of hiatus due to the earthquake and post-earthquake period. It was not easy to have large mission trips during that time.
The group had a few words they would like to share with the rest of the community about their time at our school. Here are some of their thoughts:
"The LCS students have such a passion for their school and their love of service is inspiring. They all want to better their country, not only for themselves but for others."
-Mary Agnoli (Davenport, Iowa. Freshman)
"At LCS, I see a strong community that is a good example of how as Christians we should live with and for others. It is a good witness for how we should live in our everyday lives."
-Hannah Way (Rockford, Illinois. Freshman)
"My experience at LCS has been different in that not everyone is consumed with media and technology; instead, interactions are more personal. It is clear that LCS has a mission and is carrying it out well. It is also comforting to hear the students say that they want to go back to their neighborhoods and help their country."
-Jacob Urbelis (Rockford, Illinois. Sophomore)
"As an education major, it is impressive to see LCS students actively participate in their classes. The students have the necessary ambition to do big things for their country. Talking with a recent LCS graduate who is also a math teacher in the early education program, I was struck by her strong desire and lifelong commitment to help her country."
Rebecca Derr (Dyersville, Iowa. Senior)
"The LCS students continually show that they put others before themselves - they express their love through each other, through the school, the community, and the staff. It is a happy environment where all feel welcome and I am privileged to be a part of it."
Jess Withey (Minocqua, Wisconsin. Junior)
"I have always appreciated the leadership that Patrick and Christina Moynihan have given and it is particularly striking during this trip. There are many new faces at the school and it continues to be remarkably healthy. There is a positive, almost buoyant, mood and spirit throughout the school. It has been great to reconnect with familiar faces and fun to see how the students have grown."
John Eby (Loras College, Professor of Medieval and Islamic History)
"I have been impressed by the willingness of students to engage in the structure and daily schedule of LCS. Between the leadership of the Moynihan Family, the staff, and the Volunteers, LCS functions smoothly. Patrick Moynihan's passion is evident and it affects positively both the staff and the students."
Jon Denham (Loras College, Director of Sports and Information)
